TREE

TREE LIGHT IS DESIGNED TO OVERCOME OBSOLETION, THROUGH EVOLVING WITH THE USER'S CHANGING NEEDS AND DEMANDS IN THEIR HOME.

Tree light was designed in conjunction with my dissertation subject. Which was looking at how throw away cultures have been developing in the design industry, and how to design to create products that break this pattern. Tree light tackles the trend problems in lighting. It grows, adapts and changes in sync with its owner. With users' lives changing as they move, having families and changing the layouts of their home, tree does not become obsolete.

The light works off the central pole that acts as a track, giving power to each light when pegged through a hole. Which allows the user to choose and adapt the height whenever they wish. At the top of each peg there is a ball joint, giving options for different directions for the light. The shades are interchangeable, and unscrew from the bulb holders. New shades can be designed to update the light, or the classic shade can be used continuously.

BOOKLIGHT IS THE PERFECT ADDITION TO READING, MAKING IT POSSIBLE FOR YOU TO READ ANYWHERE AT ANYTIME.

This project was completed in collaboration with Lexon, a lifestyle brand that describes themselves as humble but joyful. The brief was to design a gift to make everyday life a little more exciting and surprising. Giving a book is a personal gift, and the addition of an accessory to accompany this creates a perfect present. With the market for book accessories being very under populated, a booklight is a great addition to Lexon's family of products. 

Most conventional book lights available on the market are clumsy, un-aesthetically pleasing and over complicated. Through understanding the needs of the users, the design can be simplified down to its essential components, through this, a versatile and compact design was created. Booklight is designed to fit the standard book size, it can be used as a bookmark, as a strap to stop your pages getting bent when travelling and also as a book light.
